Calne Tale Trails
4. The Sheep Sculpture

Continue to the other end of Phelps Parade and cross the road to Sainsbury’s

This sculpture, also by Richard Cowdy, of a sheep and its lamb commemorates Calne’s heritage as a wool town. In the 18th century, Calne was a centre for woollen broadcloth, with 20 cloth mills along the River Marden. Wealthy wool merchants endowed St Mary’s Church.
