At the end of the path turn right along Mill St, noticing the ‘Proclamation Steps’ to your left.
Decisions and notices, as well as events of national significance such as coronations, were proclaimed to the people of Calne from the top of these steps. The news of the time was broadcast by a man with a very loud voice. Some did not like what they heard from which the expression of disapproval, “For crying out loud!” originated.
