Leave Pocket Park by exit near the bridge. Turn right without crossing the bridge. Continue along Beach Terrace to The Head.
The Head by sculptor Rick Kirby was the winning entry in a millennium competition initiated by the mayor of Calne. The front of the sculpture represents the past and mortality, but from its open back ideas, knowledge and wisdom are liberated to provide inspiration for progress and regeneration. It was unveiled by the Queen on the day she opened the library. She praised the library, but if she passed any comment on the Head there is no record of it.
