Calne Tale Trails
Chaveywell

Cross over ‘Jubliee Queen’ and take a left to follow the path next to the wall. Continue until you reach the spring that flows into the canal.

As far back as the 1850s, Chaveywell Spring was known for its pure waters. Calne, like many other areas, experienced epidemics of typhoid fever and diphtheria during the 1880s and 1890s. Chaveywell Spring remained pure, while others became polluted. Calne residents relied on Chaveywell until the supply from the reservoir at Calstone became widely available.
